Are you curious about the game and sport of pickleball? Are you ready to see what all the fun is about?
Coach Mark will be hosting a FREE orientation program to the game of pickleball on four Saturdays from 1 - 3 pm on the outside courts at the Birch Bay Activity Center. The dates are June 19, July 24, August 7, and August 28. Be sure to register for this event as sign up is capped at eight players. Pickleball paddles and balls will be available.
Youth Pickleball Camps
Do you know of a teen or child between the ages of 12-18 interested in learning the game of pickleball? Would you like to participate in the inaugural event of BBAC’s new Junior Development Program?
During the spring and summer of 2021, Birch Bay Activity Center will host three pickleball camps for youth, ages 12-18. These camps will be conducted on three Saturday afternoons this summer from 2-5 p.m. (June 5, July 10, and August 14).
Directed by Coach Mark, each camp will provide girls, boys, and young adults with an opportunity to learn about pickleball and participate in fun activities that develop eye-to-hand coordination and basic pickleball skills. All players will receive a special gift and both parents and players will learn about future plans for the Junior Development Program at BBAC.
Enrollment will be capped at eight players to ensure everyone has a safe and rewarding experience. The cost is $30 per players and scholarships are available. Contact BBAC for additional details.
Are you seeking to improve your doubles gameplay performance? Do you and your partner need to get ready for an upcoming club or tournament competition?
If so, Coached Gameplay may be the right solution for improving your skills and performance. In this two-hour program, Coach Mark works with eight players to learn a more systematic approach to doubles play.
At the end of this program, you will be able to:
- Understand how to play high quality pickleball in each zone of the court.
- Eliminate bad choices that lead to mistakes, confusion, and unforced errors.
- Improve results by breaking down common "gameplay situations.”
- Learn various strategies for improving team performance during doubles gameplay.
Two programs will be offered on the outside courts at Birch bay Activity Center on July 17 and 31 from 2 - 4 pm. Note that the July 17th program is for 8 intermediate players at the 3.5 skill level. The July 31st program is for 8 novice players at the 2.0 and 2.5 skill levels.
The program cost is $12 per person and eight players are required to hold each event. Contact BBAC for more information.
Are you ready to burn calories and improve your fitness and pickleball skills at the same time?
Pickleball Burn™ is a one-hour group class for players seeking to improve their conditioning, agility, and skills. There are a variety of drill patterns and cardio circuits utilized in Pickleball Burn™, including Drive and Switch, Scramble and Drop, Transition Zone Crush, Beat the Bounce, and many more. Each class is fast-paced, fun, and guaranteed to get your heart and blood pumping!

Workout with Coach Kathy and Coach Mark
Do you need to develop the control, consistency, and confidence required to advance in skill level or to play high-performance pickleball?
If so, then a special event at BBAC will help you play at a higher level of skill. On August 21-22, BBAC will host Workout with Coach Kathy and Coach Mark featuring Kathy Pederson and Mark Livingston. Both coaches are IPTPA Certified Teaching Professionals and Rating Specialists. Coach Kathy is a 5.0 rated player and coaches in Park City, Utah and Surprise, Arizona. Coach Mark is a 4.5 rated player and coaches at venues throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Coach Kathy and Coach Mark will lead intermediate and advanced players in drills and drill games from The Coach Mark Workout Series during these times:
- 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, August 21
- 11:30-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 21
- 11:30-1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 22
They will lead novice players in drills and drill games during these times:
- 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 21
- 9-11 a.m. on Sunday, August 22
- 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 22
Each 2-hour Workout is limited to eight players per session in order to ensure a rigorous and productive drill session.

Introduction to the Game of Pickleball
Are you ready to learn how to play the game of pickleball?
Coach Mark’s Introduction to the Game of Pickleball program for new players is a series of three, 2-hour lessons. At the end of this program, a small group of eight players will be able to:
- Describe the three most important rules of pickleball.
- Understand the techniques and mechanics needed to hit any shot in pickleball.
- Practice hitting dinks, drops, drives, volleys, serves (including the new drop serve), and returns of serve.
- Learn how to score and keep correct court positioning during doubles play.
- Keep a short rally going and get a quick start to the game of pickleball.
- Learn the 7 drills and 3 drill games in The Coach Mark Workout©.
Four programs will be offered on the outside courts at Birch Bay Activity Center on these dates (all sessions are from 3:30 - 5:30 pm):
- Program #1: June 29 and July 1, 6
- Program #2: July 13, 15 and 20
- Program #3: August 3, 5, and 10
- Program #4: August 31 and September 2, 7
