Position Title: Activity Coordinator / Youth Specialist
Reports To: Director
Pay Rate: $19-$23
Position Summary: The Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District is currently seeking an Activity Coordinator / Youth Specialist to plan, organize, coordinate, administer, and promote athletic, fitness, and recreation programs for the community’s youth and adults. This includes youth after school programs, summer programs, camps, and other activities for youth. This role also involves creating and implementing special events in collaboration with community partners.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, supervise, and promote current and future youth recreational programs and activities.
- Supervising or working with: program area instructors, counselors, and program volunteers.
- Coordinate After School kids’ programs that could require supervision of children ages 5-18 years old.
- Plan and create youth field trips and recreational programming.
- Work with all staff at community events such as Splash Days, Pirate Daze, and Holiday Lights Dash.
- Create and implement new community events geared towards youth.
- Grow youth recreation within the boundaries of the District.
- Ensure and follow all safety protocols in any programming event or activity.
- Clean and maintain recreational equipment and light janitorial work.
- Conducts outreach to recruit youth for BBBPRD2’s youth and adult programs.
- Collect admission fees for recreational activities, facility, or equipment rentals.
- Work weekends, evenings, and at local events.
- Track and document program sessions with sign in sheets, detailed notes, photos, & any other means deemed appropriate.
- Maintains a positive work environment and sets an example of conduct and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Candidate should possess the following:
- Be polite, respectful, and professional.
- Be community oriented, fair, honest, and have good reasoning skills.
- Be a team player who can also work independently and is willing to learn new skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Possess good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to direct, lead, and conduct group activities with confidence.
- Ability to make a detailed program outline for events and activities, including all materials needed, and safety protocols met.
- Must operate a computer with standard office software such as Teams, Excel, and Outlook and be willing to learn new software
- Experience in recreation fields or event planning is a plus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a good driving record.
- Must pass background checks.
- Red Cross First Aid/CPR certificate or able to obtain and maintain within 3 months of hire.
- Experience in social media is a plus.
